Who We Are
Máirín is currently studying for an MA in Gaelic Literature and Culture in University College Cork, and has an M.Litt from the University of Galway for a comparative study of the lexicography of Gàidhlig and Gaeilge. Jasper is a PhD candidate in in the Celtic Dept. of Universität Bonn.
The team’s function is to ensure the wellbeing of all members of the Association of Cetlic Students. The wellbeing of our members is paramount to the running of the Association. All Members of the Association are expected to adhere to our Code of Conduct (available here), and conduct themselves to the highest standard of behaviour, both towards fellow Members and members of the public.
The Association maintains a policy of inclusivity, equality, and accessibility for all peoples regardless of age, class/caste, culture, disability/impairment, ethnicity, gender identity, language, race, regional/national identity, religion/belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
If any relational problems arise with members of the Association, the Welfare and Disability Officers will be the first point of call.
- Ensuring that any individuals / organisations who work with or engage with the Association of Celtic Students are made aware of the Code of Conduct
- Making any event organised by the Association (especially the Celtic Students Conference) as accessible as possible
- Recording and securely storing all reported welfare matters, and actions taken / resolutions. Anonymity of all parties involved will be maintained wherever possible
- Compiling a report for the Association’s AGM, which will acknowledge any expulsions from the Association (will be kept anonymous)
- Supporting and assisting members of the Committee regarding issues of workload
- Informing their successors of the Code and training them in its implementation
carrying out their duties.
Inappropriate behaviour can include (non-exhaustive):
- Derogatory/insulting language
- Harassment/bullying
- Discrimination based on age, class/caste, culture, disability/impairment, ethnicity, gender identity, language, race, regional/national identity, religion/belief, sex, and sexual orientation
- Unprofessional forms of communication
- Unclear, accusatory, unresponsive, and/or passive aggressive communication
